After the glamorous and diverse festival of Vigan, another highlight of the province of Ilocos Sur that is shining in the beginning of February. Unbelievable as it seems but this event catches the spark within the people of the Ilocos Sur, including the tourists and foreigners. I have been freely lingering and unlearning the culture and tradition of my own province for almost 16 years and nothing beats the spark that Kannawidan has brought to me. Yes! Kannawidan captures the interest and happiness of the people due to its remarkable memories that left imprints to everyone’s mind. Kannawidan brings back the spark of the past and brought in today’s generation. Why? Well, there are tons of wonders to know about Kannawidan. Let’s go have a peak of it, shall we?

Kannawidan, a festival in the Province of Ilocos Sur showcases the indigenous performances, religious rituals, as well cooking demos featuring the best of Ilocano dishes. Furthermore, this also enhances the bond between the provinces and it aims to drench the richness of each provinces' culture. Kannawidan is commemorated by the virtue of the separation of the two Ilocos provinces in 1818. Boundaries was settled yet the influence of each provinces' culture's legacy still continue to spread in the whole world. One of the event of Kannawidan is a food and trade fair which unveils the treasure of provinces in Ilocos Sur. Abel from Vigan, muebles from San Vicente, jewelries from Bantay, and etag in Lidlidda are some of the products that marked into my mind as I entered the exhibit that is full of historical discoveries and wonders. Aside from that, the happiness of the festival isn't fulfilled without the street dancing and float parade! There are tons of people and they were all holding selfie sticks and posed with their tongues out in the middle of the

cobblestone street. They surrounded antique stores, ice cream vendors, and ancient wooden benches everywhere! There wasn't enough room for anything to travel down the road, not even horse-drawn carriages. The exciting part is there are also educational competitions for students in elementary, high school and as wel as college. Moreover, kannawidan night events served as the star that shines the bright every night during the festival. Some of the performers were invited to showcase their talent and ability to entertain people and catch their interest and make them dance the night away.

Kannawidan indeed aims to bond together the provinces of Ilocos Sur as well as the people. Eversince I was a kid, this is the highlight of this province that I have been waiting and longing for. Due to the overwhelming delight this festival brings, everything seems fantastical and surreal. Kannawidan have been engraved in our mind, hearts, and memories from the dawn of time. Maysa daytoy a tawid a nangkallaysa iti kultura ken tradisyon iti il-ili ti probinsiya ti Ilocos Sur.
One Festival. One Ilocos Sur. One Kannawidan.
